Rishikesh is a holy city located in the Dehradun district of Uttarakhand state in India. As Rishikesh is located on the foothills of the mighty Himalayas, the holy city is also known as the gateway to Garhwal Himalayas.

Some of the famous sight-seeing locales in and around the city of Rishikesh are as follows:

» Lakshman jhula is one of the most popular tourist destinations, once you arrive at the city of Rishikesh. This jhula was originally built with jute during the year 1889 and was re-modeled into a suspended iron bridge during the year 1936. It is named as Lakshman jhula as it was typically believed that Lord Lakshmana, younger brother of Shri Ram, used the bridge to cross the Ganges River. Lakshman jhula is 15 km from the city center.

» Shivpuri is a great tourist spot that is situated at 19 km from Rishikesh city. And Shivpuri houses a magnificent abode of Lord Shiva.

» Neelkant Mahadev temple in Rishikesh is a Shiva temple that stands at a height of 1330 m. And the temple stands amidst valleys namely Mani kooh, Brahma koot and Vishnu Koot.

» Parmarth Niketan situated in Rishikesh is one of the oldest ashrams. It houses a giant idol of Lord Hanuman, opening his heart and showing the picture of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita Devi. The ashram is strategically located on the banks of the Ganges.

Day 1: Starting Delhi and reaching the city of Rishikesh

Our luxurious Hemkund travel operators provide you with an A/C sleeper Volvo to pick you up from Delhi terminus. Breakfast will be served the moment you board the Volvo. And you travel from Delhi, all the way to Rishikesh. The total driving distance between Rishikesh and New Delhi is around 230 km. And it takes around 8 hours 40 minutes for the coach to take you to the hotel. Lunch will be provided on the way.

 

Day 2: Sight-seeing at Rishikesh

rishikeshIt is day 2 of the Hemkund yatra holiday tour. You are picked up from the hotel and the travel coach stops at a nearby restaurant for your breakfast. The first place that will be covered on day 2 of your travel itinerary will be the Lakshman jhula. You can spend 40 minutes near the jhula, have a look at the lake surrounded by the jhula. You can have a mesmerizing view of famous temples, ashrams and the river Ganges.

The second place will be the Shiv Puri temple at Rishikesh. It would be an 11 km drive. You can spend an hour paying homage to your favorite deity, Lord Shiva. You can have some refreshments or light snacks post the temple visit. We then take you to Neelkanth Mahadev temple. And the distance is roughly around 25 km from Shivpuri Mandir. Lunch will be served, after the temple visit. And we head towards Parmarth Niketan ashram. Day 2 of sightseeing comes to an end. Day 3: Travel from the city of Rishikesh to Joshimath

You are picked up from the hotel via Hemkund holiday travel Volvo coach. Breakfast will be served the moment you get into the coach. And it will be a long 8 hour drive for us to reach Joshimath from the city of Rishikesh. The total distance covering the entire journey is around 254 km via NH7. Lunch will be served on the way. Overnight stay will be at the hotel.

 

Day 4: Sight-seeing at Joshimath

joshimathBreakfast is served the moment you get into the coach. Our first item on the travel itinerary at Joshimath will be the Kalpavriksha. Kalpavriksha tree is considered to be one of the oldest trees in the country and it is estimated that the tree is more than 1,200 years old. Sri Adhi Sankara used the tree to perform his meditation. And Kalpavriksha tree is also considered to be a wish fulfilling tree as per Hindu mythology.

We then take you to Govindghat. Govindghat is hardly situated at a distance of 18.5 km from Joshimath. Gobind ghat is situated on the banks of the Alakananda River and you find an exotic lake in the vicinity. The lake is known as Hemkund.
Hemkund also means ‘the lake of snow’. The water of the lake is really very cold. You can visit a Gurudwara, the worshipping place of the Sikhs. It is believed that Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th guru of the Sikhs used to perform his meditation here. Lunch will be served on the way.

We then take you to Nanda Devi National park. The park boasts of wide varieties of flora, fauna and attractive plantation. It is a very scenic cum picturesque spot, indeed. The park is spread over an area of 630 sq km and is surrounded by the Nanda Devi Mountain on all three sides. The park is in fact, a UNESCO world heritage site.

The park houses animals like snow leopard, Himalayan musk deer, brown bear, ruby throat, bharal, langur and grosbeaks. You find attractive birds like orange flanked bush robin, Indian tree pipit, yellow bellied fantail, flycatchers, blue fronted redstart and vivacious breasted pipit. Kids and adults can enjoy viewing a kaleidoscope of vibrant and colorful butterflies at the park. There are about 300 species of flowers including juniper and alpine vegetation. You would reach the hotel at 8 pm in the evening. Dinner is provided and overnight stay will be at the hotel.

 

Day 5: Sightseeing at Ghangharia

You can have your breakfast the moment you get into the travel coach.
Ghangharia is also known as the valley of flowers. It is a 15 km trek from Joshimath. This is a beautiful meadow of flowers. You can find more than 7000 species of pretty looking flowers which bloom during the months starting June ending October. The virgin beauty of surrounding valleys, fresh flowers, fauna and beautiful looking birds and butterflies can simply leave you spellbound. The Valley of flowers was declared a UNESCO world heritage site during the year 1982. You can spend the entire day exploring flowers and plants kept in glass houses. Day 6: Drop from hotel to Delhi airport
